000OOOooo O OMG

I am profile O that is an easy way to say it.  In other words my dominant side of the brain is
the right side, my dominant eye is the left, my dominant ear is the right, my dominant hand is the left
and my dominant leg is also the left.  The right side of my brain is the gestalt hemisphere.  This means that I like my knowledge to be passed to me all at once and in the format of a story or to be told directly to me. Mr. Whiting came to our class and told us all this information. Information on how to tell what our dominant side is. We spent that class trying to find our dominant areas.  In these few paragraphs I am going to tell you about how I learn best,what I need to do and the strategies that would help me in my learning and what I want my teachers to know about me.

 I feel I learn best when I have an idea of the "BIG" picture before I begin to complete my task. I like my information to be given to me by the start of a story or to be told to me in person.  I also learn best through using movement that means I learn well on white boards.  I am a visual learner.  When reading a book or writing a story I like to put myself into the position of the character so I can feel the emotions that the character would feel.  As I am a visual/kinesthetic learner I must physically do what is being learned.  As I learn I need to move especially my hands to process new learning.  I am emotionally and physically expressive at the moment one hand is typing for me and the other is playing with a yo-yo.  When I am relaxed I may preferentially listen for the details I prefer not to follow step by step visual instructions.  I tend to start imagining the end result of the movie or book and instinctively get it correct sometimes.  If everything is going well and there are not problems my learning is easy going but when I bump into a problem it seems my whole brain seems to shut down and my mind goes blank and if I am touching something I then start to imagine about it thus it could create a distraction during my learning.
I may have difficulty writing because my eye and my hand is not working together because my brain works faster than my head and I tend to forget things while writing that is why it helps to have a visual on the whiteboard or a piece of paper that I can copy from.  My left eye scans from right to left sometimes I get difficulty reading or writing languages that is why I did not last long while learning Mandarin in my old school.  Usually I appreciate metaphors and examples when associating with problem solving. 

I believe I need to have some sort of item in class to play with while learning for example stress ball, pencil, eraser.  Also it would help me to do lazy eights or drawing while learning.  I need to have visual learning so I can remember thoroughly also when learning I need to have the process planned out on the board not as in a schedule but as in a main idea.  I need to sit at the front of the class need the white board and also at the left side - where Fynnola is sitting.  But it also needs to be a place where I can quietly play with something without disturbing other students. Also because I need to wear glasses I need to sit near the whiteboard that I can see more clearly.  I am short sighted that means that I cannot see in the distance also sometimes with my classes I get a reflection off the white board which gives me trouble seeing so if I was to sit close to the board I would be able to see perfectly.  

One strategy that would help me out is by doodling on my page also I could do lazy 8s for my eye and hand coordination.  Also I need something to play with as I said before that would include a stress ball, pencil or eraser.  Also I could note things down in my planner or on a piece of paper.  When I am under stress and my mind is all blank I can do some of the technics to relieve stress like massaging where the jaw meets also I should listen to music while working.  It says I should have a good balance of art and at the moment I am doing art on my wheel which I believe has relieved some stress.  I need to use input from my own knowledge, other people's knowledge and knowledge I have learned to help me learn.

I would like my teachers to know to put me at the front left hand side of the classroom so it is easy for me to see.  Also I would like them to know to use a dark colour on the whiteboard so I can see more clearly and I would like them to know if suddenly my mind goes blank it means I am under some kind of stress either in the classroom or outside. Also I like my information to be given to me by the start of a story or to be told to me in person. Also I would like them to know that if I have some sort of squishy toy its just because it helps me to concentrate.

This is just some information on ME and who I am as a sixth grader

Lit Circle Blog Post

1.The benefits of working with a classmate.
Some benefits of working with a classmate are... well now that we have a friend to work with you can ask questions about the book while working on it. So if you do not understand one part you always have you partner to help. Another is if you need help for example you cant think of a question and a response to go with it, you can ask you partner. Another benefit is that you can split the work. So if some reason you can not get a part done your partner can help you.
2. Challenges  obstacles which you overcame (tried to overcome).

A challenge I over came was the ability to create level 2-3 questions. Now I am able to create mostly level two questions but at times my brain explodes and I create a really advanced level three question. Another challenge I overcome was to be able to find a good passage. Now I realize a good passage is a really interesting paragraph than contains action maybe mind twisting events. It must contain some information that is really interesting.
3. New understandings that you gained about the novel.

Having a partner helped me understand the novel in a few ways one way is that I could see some parts about the novel in different point of views. Like when he was making the fire I thought that he would not succeed but Dhabitah said that he must or else he will not live.

Literature Circle

1. How your groups discussion helped your understanding of the novel.
The group discussion helped me to understand the novel by ......if I had any questions including my discussion questions my group would help me to understand and to resolve those problems.  Also they had their own opinions to or against things which I had never seen from their point of view it had made me realise new aspects of the story.
 
2. Connections that you made during your discussion
One connection I made was that my Mum and my Dad have been divorced once but not from each other.  The next connection is that I was once stranded on an island i was when I was in Langkawi and I canoed to another island and was surrounded by crabs.  My Dad was in the canoe but I could not move any further.
3. Predictions
I believe that Brian will find food and water and he will be able to survive for a while longer.  I believe that his parents will notice that he is gone and start a search so that they can find him.  I think that Brian's parents will get back together at the end of the book.

How Does the Geographical Location of Malaysia Make it Wealthy

The main reason that Malaysia is wealthy because of the geographic location is that traders used to ship in or pass Malaysia and Singapore to go across to the Pacific so when they passed they would stop to trade.  Ships would send in large amounts of different items to trade and also the people would come from many different places, some wealthy some not and if they were wealthy they would bring in very expensive items.  Yet the poor people when they came they had items that were not found in the country so others wanted to buy them.  Some traders would stay in Malaysia for part time or even life long to trade for their job so when they returned to their country they had enough money to live.  When the wealthy people came to live in Malaysia for life long that also bought Malaysia money, this would have given more poor people houses, education and jobs.  The rich people would trade in their expensive items for the items Malaysia had to offer example palm oil, wood, tin and rubber.  The rich people who came were impressed because they may have had expensive items but did not have what Malaysia produced.  Also that is when they started to farm they would plant their own crops which bought in more visitors because they had a stable food supply unlike some countries when they need to go out every day and hunt and gather.  The Malaysian people were smart and they started up school for educational uses this bought in even more visitors who had children and then they could go to schools and get an education in other trades and about countries.  For the people who lived in cold countries Malaysia is just off the equator and visitors would come here to get warmth.  These were a few of the examples of why Malaysia is wealthy.

The Day when the Giants Attacked

One day I was with my family in the mangroves building our new home in Kuala Selangor.  We were about to make my bedroom or my hole as the humans call it when suddenly my sister got squished and my Dad and Mum started screaming because we all thought she was dead when suddenly the thing moved and my sister was okay.  UGG.  Me and my sister don't get on very well we always fight and we hate each other so when she got squished I started laughing and it was a disappointment to find out she lived - whatever back to the point.  I went up to the surface of the mud to see what that thing was and it was a giant, the giant had long hair and whenever she touched the mud she would scream so I thought it would be funny to pull a prank on her since she was such a sissy girl.  So I was thinking of my plan then I had it the most wonderful idea so without anyone seeing me I slivered up to the girls foot and no-one saw me so I slipped into her shoe before you know it she felt some slivering going up her leg.  She did not know what it was so she checked her leg and saw ME.  She screamed like crazy her boot was caught in the mud so her foot slipped out of the boot and she started squrming around.  I was laughing like mad because I would not come off.  She was getting really frustrated with me so she grabbed me and threw me away next thing you know I am back in my hole.  My mum and dad both looking really mad at me and my sister who looked as scared as possible were all frowning at me.  Then my Mum started giving me a lecture on why you should not scare the giants because they were going to eat us or kill us or something like that.  Then above us a shadow cast, it was a boy with a big head then he picked my sister up she was screaming like crazy he tried to eat her then my mum said I had to go and rescue her.  I squggled up his hand and broke my sister free she grabbed me and hugged me "Eeewwww".  I went up to the surface right away when I got there I saw huge people and the biggest man I had ever seen (Mr Smith).  Zooooom.  A boy dashing across the mud field he nearly stepped in my hole but as I see next to the boy there is a girl stuck knee high.  When I looked farther behind them I see a man and some kids doing stuff with these sticks I just ignored them and then one of my friends came along he was screaming.  He kept asking me over and over what these things were and I told them I did not know but my parents had told me so many stories of how they devour us.  They told me that they will just pick us up squish us chew us to death and then eat us whole.  He was in shock he said "what filthy beasts".  Now the whole mud area was packed with people one kid stood in there for about an hour and still remains I heard a woman calling "okay guys it is time to pack up and leave" then the people started dashing towards the exit.  The one person still remained.  I thought I should help him out a bit so I crept up and went into her sock and she looked at me and picked me up and threw me away.  Then she started to walk "yes I had done it everyone was cleared out of the area".  Woohoo guys lets celebrate.  We lived through the war.  Yeeeehaaaaa.

Don't be a bully!

2 years ago when I lived in Singapore I went to this school called the international school of Singapore or the ISS for short. When I lived there and went to that school every day there was a girl there named Isabelle she was one of the meanest people I have ever met in my life even the high schoolers were afraid of her but they knew they were older so they had no interest in us little 2nd graders. But one thing that really scared me was that she was well I'm not trying to be rude but she was obese or over-weight and at that time I was really small and short, well at this point you can see where this is going. She hated me and well of course I hated her to and as we are learning in science "when a base and an acid touch they create a reaction". This is my story of the time I got bullied.



It was spirit week and the first day was PJ day at the time I was small so we had kiddie PJ's everyone was wearing their PJ's except Isabelle. Why well I asked then she called me a moron and I wasn't to sure what that meant so I thought it was a complement then I said thanks she gave me one of those kinds of looks when you think in your head are you an idiot? So I asked again and then she said that PJ's weren't cool but I loved my PJ's they had Bugs Bunny on them also my shoes had Bugs Bunny on them I liked Bugs Bunny. I didn't mind that she didn't like PJ's but this is the part when she went to far she said she hated really really hated BUGS BUNNY! I got so mad but I knew I would get in trouble if I hit her so I just said that isn't nice and walked away. At that time I only had one class so after that one class it was lunch. I started walking down to the canteen then I saw Isabelle walking my way she looked really mad and like she wanted to hurt someone and it looked like she had been crying. So from a far away distance I asked her what was wrong but no reply I asked again now she looked even madder but I was just trying to be nice. Then I noticed she was going faster I just stayed where I was no movement but I did look around me to see if there was anyone else. I looked back and now she was charging at me full speed but I was the fastest in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade so I was proud of that so I started to run I could run faster then her but I tripped on my Bugs Bunny slippers that I was wearing and fell. I looked at my arms they were bleeding a bit then I looked to see if Isabelle was still there she was and now she jumped and I didn't get why she was jumping but it was to jump onto me I tried to move but I was in to much pain already. And I thought in my head "I'm dead no way can I get out of this now I will never see sixth grade". The shadow cast over me I tried to yell but no one was there but just a little screech someone must have heart because right before she flattened me my friends came and got me out of the way before something bad happened. I was safe but poor Isabelle I felt sorry for her she fell flat on her face on a sharp surface so I ran to help her even though I was still in pain. I put my hand out and she grabbed it and pulled me down then grabbed my shirt and pulled me up at this point she was strangling me. My friends were trying to knock her down but no then she hung me on a loose nail on the side of the wall and started punching me I was in so much pain. My friend Sam jumped between me and her and stopped her from hitting me again. My friends helped me down and we got a teacher and we all asked her why she did it and she said it was because all of the 2nd grade kept asking her why she wasn't wearing her PJ's and it got on her nerves a bit to much. So usually this is the part when I say then she didn't bully me again well sorry she did and she kept doing it she had problems and her mom was just the same I see their resemblance. But that was the worst bulling I have ever gotten into and I hope it will never happen again.

The Time I Showed Courage

What is courage? That is one of there questions where there are many answers where they are all different by persons perspective of courage that they have shown in the past. But the most offten type of courage is doing something that you have not done before and that your scared about doing. But I am going to tell you about another type of courage that I have shown in the past that is not doing something I did not want to do.



Once upon a time in a distant galaxy far far away........ scratch that, sorry this is a story about the time I showed courage by telling my friend something so secret that it could hurt another friend, so I needed to make a choice. what is courage? That is one of there questions where there are many answers where they are all different by persons perspective of courage that they have shown in the past. But the most offten type of courage is doing something that you have not done before and that your scared about doing. But I am going to tell you about another type of courage that I have shown in the past that is not doing something I did not want to do.




Two years ago on September I got news that there was a rumor going on about my friend who actually liked my best friend it was a love rumor. This rumor got all round the school even to the preschoolers but they didn’t care it was big kids stuff (that’s what the little kids called it) I was in 2nd grade at the time in the international school of Singapore. This really mean girl named Isabell started this rumor saying that my friend Samule liked my other friend Lauren but it was not true. And I heard about it last but Samule and Lauren didn’t know about it yet and everyone told me to tell them but I didn’t want to hurt them by telling them the truth but I didn’t want to hurt them by lying.




As I walked by the hallways people were shouting “TELL THEM, TELL THEM, TELL THEM” and it was really annoying I didn’t know if I was supposed to tell them or not. I had to tell them because no one had enough courage to tell them and I was their best friend. All day in my head I was thinking about my decision I mean why was the whole school putting so much pressure on ME the second grader I was a nobody and now there is all this attention “I should enjoy it while I can” I quoted. Everyone in the school knew my name it was SCARY!!!! I was kinda freaking out by that time one little rumor that wasn’t even about me, was really all about me. I had made my decision and it took a lot of effort I decided to tell them both at the same time. Luckily they were mad but not at me at Isabell the school bully well for my grade for starting the rumor.

In conclusion I showed courage by telling someone something that could affect something or someone else like a variable but in the end I chose the right option.

How can understanding the past, help us to understand our world?

 

How can understanding the past, help us to understand our world?
Trying to understand the past is a hard question but I will try to explain it in my own word so that anyone can understand.

Understanding the past can help us by seeing what mistakes we made so that we can evolve from those mistakes and fix them to help us it the future. Like why wars happen we can look to the past and stop that from happening in the future.

Understanding the past can help us understand our world by looking at the features or roads mountains or even features of artifacts people used a long time ago. Or bones from some prehistoric animal to see if it is an everyday animal we see, like an elephant back then it was a mammoth or tiger back then was a saber tooth tiger.

Also it helps me learn about my culture where I am from who the rulers were at that time, why the flag is made that way. I could find out who my ancestors were and who the kings and queen's were at that time who was important in that time do I know anyone from back then?

Another way was through cave paintings that mostly symbolizes what happened in a modern hominid day was like if there were any wars. But know that scientist have more evidence they are able to hypothesize what the hominids were like and how they survived.

Also we learn from the past like how they catch food the spear became something much more power full and harder to brake, the sword. The spear thrower, the gun and traps these days everything is so high tech like a trip wire back then they only had leaves and their own hands to dig a hole and put leaves on top so that when the meal walked by it would fall in a hole and be trapped.

In conclusion there are many differences from back then to this very day yet at the same time there are similarities and understanding the past can help us understand the world very much in all the reasons I listed.

Which Social Scientist Are You?

This week during Humanities class you have been introduced to and discussed Social Scientists (Archaeologists, Historians and Geographers). Now is the time to make a choice as to which of the three Social Scientist jobs you would  like to do! Perhaps you love dinosaurs, or digging in dirt? Maybe you're really interested in the climate or the terrain? Or do you just love it all? Either way, please tell us which of the three Social Scientist jobs you would most like to do.
   Provide a minimum of 3 reasons and explanations  (3 paragraphs in total)as to why you think you would be great at that job, as well as two graphic images (with sources cited) that represent your "dream" job!

My Social Scientist job is Archaeologist.


One reason is I have always loved to learn about the past and important history also because I could get rich and famous and be recognized all over the world and I would  be able to travel the world which I would really like to do. To Egypt for the Mummies, Greece for the Ancient Greeks, Italy for the Romans and Sweden, Denmark and Norway for the Vikings. Plus I have watched a lot of shows on National Geographic. 



The second is how it would affect my life. I think it would affect my life in many ways some good some bad but mostly good. I would have to travel a lot and I would not be able to have a proper family; well I could but it would be difficult. I would be able to work at a museum while I am not out exploring and I could share with kids all my adventures and influence them to become an Archaeologist. Also I would have a huge mansion to store all my work and I would be really famous.


The third is I have seen a lot of movies with archaeologists as the main characters like Brendan Fraser in The Mummy, Harrison ford in Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull and Angelina Jolie as Tomb raider.



Most Archaeologists use metal detectors to find metal under ground and they dig up dirt or sand or grass to see if they can find any pottery or maps or pieces of paper to relate to the past time in history. If they find any what we call things (they call artifacts) with ancient text on it they run their fingers across it like Braille to read it or they dust it off with a brush to get a clearer image if there are pictures on it.

Some Archaeologists find bones in the dirt could be from Dinosaurs years ago to dog these days, they could even find Mummies and in ancient Egypt, to Greek swords and armor or Viking hats and hammers or swords. They might even find some Egyptian cases or some cool sword or daggers and some roman swords.



Another artifact that Archaeologists find are not artifacts they are places like tombs under-ground or even above ground. Also there are places made out of rock which are now tourist attractions like Stonehenge is a really famous one or even something some people see everyday like the pyramids in Egypt one day a long time ago a man who probably after that became an Archaeologist discovered that. Or a whole country like Pompeii was founded around the 7th-6th century by Osci or Oscans.
